Sleeves

Now you are ready to sew your sleeves to your hoodie.  This hoodie has raglan sleeves. If you would like to learn more about different types of sleeves, please see the resource library.

Follow these steps for completing the sleeves.

  1. Pin sleeve to armhole, right sides together
  2. Using a wobble, stretch or 4 thread overlock, stitch together (should end with reinforced seam)
  3. Use appropriate seam finish
    1. Stitch again ¼” and trim
    2. Trim after stretch stitches
    3. 3 thread overlock
    1. Staystitch neckline of hoodie, from shoulder to centers. ½” seam allowance, 1.5 length, overlapping 2 stitches at center back
    2. Pin sleeve back and front together, right sides together.  It is best to pin it with the pins placed vertical on the seam line so you do not prick yourself when you try on the hoodie for fitting.
    3. Try on for fit – make any alterations desired.  You can take in the side seams, shorten sleeves, shorten hoodie, etc.  Make sure you adjust the corresponding parts if necessary (facing, zipper, etc.)
    4. Using a wobble, stretch or 4 thread overlock, stitch together (should end with reinforced seam)
    5. Use appropriate seam finish
      • Stitch again ¼” and trim
      • Trim after stretch stitches
      • 3 thread overlock
