Tammie Pontsler, Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor, has been teaching sewing for over 20 years. She began her career in Southern California as a Family and Consumer Sciences (Home Economics) teacher and developed a Fashion Design and Clothing Construction program. Since that first job, Tammie has taught over 2,000 people to sew, from children to adults. In 2014, she was hired as a Clothing Construction Instructor at San Diego College of Continuing Education. For 8 years, Tammie taught garment construction, textile arts and sewing home products. During that time, she became a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor and utilized the tissue-fitting method with hundreds of students. She has taught upper body and pant fitting as well as tailoring. When the pandemic hit, she quickly turned her sewing studio into a production studio and began to teach all of her classes online. By creating over 500 YouTube videos, developing online courses and meeting with students over Zoom, Tammie taught 23 virtual, semester-long sewing classes to over 500 students. In 2022, she relocated to Grand Rapids, MI. Since then, she has created a studio in her home for designing and teaching in-person and online courses. In Fall 2023, Tammie began online coursework at Savannah College of Art and Design in pursuit of an MFA in Fashion. Tammie’s greatest passions are sewing, learning and teaching. Empowering students with skills to make “wearable creativity that fits” gives her great joy. She hopes that you will experience this joy while learning with her.
