Laying out the Hoodie, Cutting your Fabric and Marking

Before laying out your fabric, make sure you have washed and dried the fabric how you will typically launder the garment once it’s made.  If you hang everything to dry, dry it in the dryer to get the shrinkage out.

To layout the hoodie on your fabric, follow the guide sheet layout instructions. If you would like me to check before you cut, please take photos of your layout.  Make sure to show your ruler/measuring tape measuring your grainline. Email photos to hello@tammiepontsler.com or text me at 616-485-1499.

To layout your patterns on your fabric:

  • Preshrink fabric
  • Lay pattern pieces out on fabric,
  • Use weights, if needed
  • Get layout checked (optional)
  • Cut with rotary cutter, if needed

Cutting out the hoodie

Once you have pinned your pattern pieces to your fabric and had it checked (optional), you are ready to cut.  Here are some tips for cutting out your hoodie.

Marking your hoodie

Before removing your patterns, you will want to mark all of the necessary markings and notches.  In the presentation below, you will learn your options on marking your knit fabric as well as how to mark the shoulder darts.
